Ready? - Pet - Go!
Please review the literature below. Among the literature you will find our guidelines, adoption fees and the adoption applications. You can also read up on some information to help you decide which of our 4-legged friends are best for you. This information will help guide you in your adoption decision.
Our Find-A-Pet form can be used in two ways. If you see a pet on our website that you're interested in, you can list that pet on the form and an Adoption Counselor will call you to discuss. If you don't see a pet on our website that you're interested in, you can list the kind of pet you're looking for, and if we get a pet in that matches your needs we will call you.
Please note that Adopt-A-Pet operates in the Chicago and suburban area and only adopts animals to families in the greater Chicagoland vicinity or, on certain occasions, immediately surrounding areas such as southern Wisconsin or northern Indiana.

Adoption - Step By Step
- Review the Adoption Guidelines and other literature above.
- Peruse our Adoptable Cats or Adoptable Dogs page. If you see an animal that you're interested in, call 847-550-9690 and leave a message in Mailbox Number 1. An Adoption Counselor will then call you back.
- Alternatively, you may fill out and send us the Find-A-Pet Form online. When we receive it, an Adoption Counselor will call you.
- After a brief interview, the Adoption Counselor will ask you to fill out and send in a Dog or Cat Adoption Application. Depending on circumstances, this application may take 24-48 hours for preliminary approval.
- Your Adoption Counselor will then call you back to set up a meeting for us to meet you, and for you to meet the animal to determine if there is a match between the pet and your family.
- If given final approval, sign an Adoption Contract and pay the adoption fee.
- Take your new pet home, give it lots of love, and live happily ever after!

Remember, shelter pets have already been thrown away once!
Please adopt only if you are ready to make a lifetime commitment.
