2022 UPDATE:
As we go through this crazy time in our world right now, Adopt-A-Pet is still operating on a limited basis. This is out of an abundance of caution to keep our foster homes safe, as well as having limited access to veterinary care,
as many clinics still are not accepting shelter animals.

Please note that enlisting new foster homes involves a substantial amount of administrative and paper work, and because fostering has a learning curve which requires we invest a significant amount of our time and resources in the application and training process, we are really only looking for people with intentions and the ability to make an ongoing commitment for repeat fostering.

Foster Home Application
Prior to submitting this application, all family members must be in agreement with regards to fostering animals. Additionally, all family members must agree to the acknowledgements displayed throughout the application. Finally, please know that the process of fostering includes the step of ultimately adopting out your temporary pets, even if you are in love with them. If you are looking for a permanent pet, please consider adopting instead.

Please contact us at info@adoptapet-il.org before completing the form below to ensure that we are
accepting new foster home applications at this time.

    PART ONE
Are you able to foster seasonally, short-term, or long-term (however long it takes)? Please explain what seasons/months you are available/unavailable to foster animals, and how long you are willing to foster.
Please read the following: Many foster homes find it difficult to give up their foster pet, even though they know it’s going to a good home. We’d like to know if you have considered your emotional makeup and your ability to keep your focus on the “bigger picture” – that being the act of providing repeat foster care allows more dogs and cats to be rescued and given another chance at life. Although it may be difficult, are you confident you will be able to give up your foster pet knowing it is going to a good home?
Please read the following statement: Fostering a homeless animal is a serious responsibility and can make considerable demands on your time and resources. You will be making a commitment to be responsible for the animal’s welfare until a permanent home can be found. This includes, but is not limited to, feeding, exercising, socializing, training, grooming, medicating, scooping poop or cleaning litter boxes. You will be required to answer phone calls and emails promptly, and periodically report to the Foster Administrator. You will be required to make yourself and the pet available to meet with prospective adopters, sometimes on short notice. Your home will be expected to be reasonably clean so that prospective adopters can come to meet the pet. You may be required to bring the pet to the vet for routine care or treatment of illness. You may be asked to bring the pet to periodic weekend adoption events. You will be required to attend periodic meetings and trainings. Are you willing to take on these types of responsibilities and commitments?
STATEMENT: By digitally signing below, I certify that the information provided on this application is true and I recognize that any misrepresentation of facts may result in losing fostering privileges. I authorize investigation of all statements in this application and understand that veterinarians, landlords, other humane agencies, etc. may be contacted for verification.
